Please note this service is solely provided and funded by the UNT student computer labs and is in no way affiliated with the College of Music’s Recording Services Department or any official CoM courses.  If you have questions or booking requests for any recording event outside of the Computer Lab please contact recording services for assistance: http://recording.music.unt.edu

The College of Music Computer Lab Recording Studio is open for recording in accordance with general computer lab hours. Detailed information is as follows:

By requesting a studio reservation, you agree to the following Terms & Conditions: "I understand that the information provided in my request is truthful to the best of my knowledge. I understand that, if I misrepresent myself as a Music major or minor or my studio time as academically related, my request or reservation may be denied or canceled."

Policies:

  • All reservations must be made at least five days ahead of time.
  • Multitracked sessions are allowed but may require multiple sessions and additional coordination.
  • Please fill out the online submission as thoroughly as possible so we may prepare efficiently and correctly. The Studio will reach out to the patron via email for any additional information.
  • If a patron is excessively late and/or unprepared then the session may be canceled at the engineer’s discretion.
  • We will try to accommodate all instruments, but we may not be able to accommodate all recording requests depending on the logistics of setup. Specifically, drum set recordings will need additional planning and coordination.
  • Any pre-recorded audio files that will be used for tracking must be submitted in the studio reservation form or sent to the Lab Studio via email prior to the session’s start time. -Video recording is available, but not required.
  • Food and drink, with the exception of water, are not permitted in the studio.

Procedures:

  • Please be well-prepared and available for continued email communication leading up to the session.
  • Please arrive at your allotted time, not earlier. The setup will take place prior to the recording session.
  • When you arrive, enter the computer lab at the entrance to Room MU238.
  • You will be able to communicate with the engineer in the booth through headphones and/or a stand-alone speaker and microphones in the room.

  • Please consult the UNT Academic Calendar for any scheduled building/campus closures.

Session length is normally NO MORE THAN TWO HOURS AT A TIME. Special circumstances involving recording larger groups may warrant extended recording times with the exception of Training Sessions, which are never to exceed two hours. We ask that you limit your recording requests to only TWO 2-HOUR SESSIONS PER WEEK. This is to ensure that everyone who wants to record in our studio can. Requests that do not meet these criteria may not be considered.

Recording projects that are NOT directly related to a student's academic endeavors are not permitted. In order for non-music majors to record in the studio, they must provide specific information on how their recording project is related to their academic work. Non-music majors are Limited to two recording sessions per semester.
